Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform, JavaScript runtime environment that executes JavaScript code outside a web browser. Consequently, Node.js unifies web-application development around a single programming language, rather than different languages for server- and client-side scripts. Node.js is being used in production by large companies, owning to fact that there is a large number of libraries and modules thus simplifying the development of web application. Ideally Node.js is an extremely versatile, powerful and efficient, environment to build, and maintain web servers.
